Chiropractors using manual treatments for patients with neck and/or low back problems are required to explain that there have been rare cases of injury to the arteries of the neck/disc following treatment. Manipulation has been associated with (not proven to directly cause) stroke in rare instances, approximately one per one million manipulations. The technique practiced here — Gonstead — does not utilise rotation or extension. Several manual tests will be performed to assess your individual risk. This precaution, together with our safe practice method, almost negates the chances of any injury.
